Steps to earning a degree with CFS Honors can vary based on whether or not you are entering the program as a first-year student. Click on the link below which describes the steps you will need to take to earn CFS Honors recognition.

I am a first-year student.

I am not a first-year student.

If you are a junior or senior in the CFS Honors Program and would like the complete Honors Project Guidelines document, contact the CFS Honors coordinator at cfshonor@purdue.edu or 494-8533. The document includes the following:

  • FAQs about completing an Honors project
  • Guidelines for enrolling in 39700 and 49700
  • Guidelines for CFS Honors project proposal
  • Guidelines for binding your CFS Honors project
  • Guidelines for preparing posters for the CFS Honors Colloquium and the CFS Alumni Awards Dinner
Steps: First-year Entry
19700 (Typically 1-2 credit hours)
  • Take first-year seminar class
29700 (Optional: Typically 1 credit hour)
  • Meet faculty and attend classes on the research process
  • Select faculty Honors advisor
  • Begin development of Honors project proposal
39700* (Typically 3-5 credit hours)
  • Select faculty Honors advisor
  • Develop and submit Honors project proposal
  • Revise and re-submit Honors project proposal (if required)
  • Work on Honors project
49700 (At least 1 credit hour in final semester)
  • Work on Honors project
  • Prepare final project report
  • Present a poster at the CFS Honors Colloquium and the CFS Alumni Awards Dinner
  • Submit both a bound copy and an electronic copy of the final report for deposit in the Hicks Undergraduate Library
  • Graduate with a CFS Honors Certificate and Honors recognition on your transcript
* Must have at least six hours of some combination of 39700 and 49700 to receive a degree with CFS Honors.

 

Steps: Non First-year Entry
29700 (Optional: Typically 1 credit hour)
  • Meet faculty and attend classes on the research process
  • Select faculty Honors advisor
  • Begin development of Honors project proposal
39700* (Typically 3-5 credit hours)
  • Select faculty Honors advisor
  • Develop and submit Honors project proposal
  • Revise and re-submit Honors project proposal (if required)
  • Work on Honors project
49700 (At least 1 credit hour in final semester)
  • Work on Honors project
