Prepares students for
careers as professional educators in areas related to individual
and family life. All CFS Education graduates are licensed to teach
in middle and high school family and consumer sciences programs.
They also have career opportunities with community human service
agencies, businesses, and the Cooperative Extension Service. Job
opportunities are strong for CFS Education graduates. In Indiana
alone, there are more than 1,100 school-based positions. Job openings
are projected to exceed the supply of new teachers in Indiana and
nationwide for the next several years.

Dietetics,
Coordinated and Didactic Programs (back to

Designed for students
interested in careers such as nutrition counseling, hospital and
clinical dietetics, public health nutrition programs, clinical research,
private practice in nutrition, and institutional foodservice management.
Purdue offers two programs in dietetics.
Didactic Program in
Dietetics (DPD): Upon completion of the four-year didactic
program, the graduate applies for the supervised experience, which
is available throughout the United States and lasts about 10 months.
An advantage to the didactic program is that there is extra time
to take elective courses in other areas of interest.

Coordinated Program
in Dietetics (CPD): The coordinated program includes the supervised
experience component during the student's senior year. An advantage
of the CPD is that students are eligible to take the registered
dietitian (R.D.) examination upon graduation.

Early
Childhood Education and Exceptional Needs (back

Students gain knowledge
and skills for a variety of careers in education and intervention
programs for young children and their families. Graduates are prepared
to be teachers in inclusive preschool classrooms and/or in classrooms
serving children (up to 8 years) with exceptional needs

This major prepares students
to work in positions serving infants and toddlers with, or who are
at risk for, disabilities and their families. Graduates may work
in center-based or home-based programs.

Graduates are prepared
to assist in the management of financial resources through careers
with financial planning firms, family financial clinics, investment
services, financial institutions, and credit counseling services
among others. The program is registered with the Certified
Financial Planner Board.

This is a two-year program
(associate's degree) that prepares students to assume the responsibilities
of a middle manager or supervisor in a variety of foodservice and

Prepares students for management careers in restaurants, hotels,
clubs, resorts, corporate dining accounts, airlines, cruise lines,
vacation ownership resorts, and catering businesses. Students can

management, lodging management, or tourism management.
