PURPOSE
Individuals and families in today’s society face major challenges related to diet and health, financial security, children’s success in school, parenting, aging, and living and working in a diverse, global economy. CFS is engaged in addressing and solving these challenges through its learning, discovery, and engagement missions. Our purpose is to significantly improve the quality of life for individuals, families, and consumers in Indiana and beyond.
PEOPLE
The college cannot fulfill its purpose without people — the students, faculty, and staff who make up the college as well as those within the University community and beyond with whom we partner to achieve our mission.
Students
Goals
- Recruit and retain a diverse, committed, and talented student population
- Prepare students to be leaders in improving the quality of life in a global community
Strategies
- Increase financial support available to a diverse population of students
- Enrich the student experience with expanded opportunities for study abroad, internships, research, and service learning
- Incorporate the CFS core competencies into all academic programs
- Promote breadth and depth of study across all disciplines
Faculty and Staff
Goals
- Recruit and retain a diverse and preeminent faculty
- Recruit and retain a diverse and committed staff
Strategies
- Expand faculty and staff recruitment initiatives among underrepresented populations
- Ensure faculty have the supportive, creative environment required to achieve preeminence
- Leverage resources to ensure faculty success and completion of the CFS mission
- Create a clear connection between staff and the CFS mission
- Create opportunities for recognition and advancement for staff
- Develop and implement a mentoring system for new faculty and staff
- Create communication avenues between faculty and staff across departments

By working with others who share similar goals and whose expertise is complementary to ours, we can more effectively achieve our goals in learning, discovery, and engagement.

- Lead collaborations in the University that enhance the student experience and faculty success
- Mobilize partnerships in Indiana and beyond that improve the well being of individuals and their families
Strategies
- Promote interdisciplinary research across campus, the nation, and internationally
- Expand interdisciplinary learning opportunities across campus for students
- Enhance connections between industry/corporate partners and our students and faculty
- Utilize CFS Extension to build connections with community partners across Indiana
- Build upon the existing partnership with Indiana State Department of Health to promote heath and wellness
