Consumer & Family Sciences Extension

Through Consumer and Family Sciences Extension, research from Purdue University can be transformed into education that improves the quality of life for citizens in Indiana. CFS Extension is a bridge between the resources and knowledge at Purdue and communities across the state. It provides educational programs, resources, and support in the following areas:

Children and Families

Food and Health

Home and Money

Healthy People, Healthy Communities

With the critical need to improve the health of Hoosiers, CFS Extension is lending its support through the Healthy People, Healthy Communities initiative.

In 2005, Extension educators began partnering with community groups to create coalitions (or support existing efforts) to identify and address local issues concerning health and well-being. Today, more than half of Indiana's 92 counties have Healthy People, Healthy Communities coalitions.

Target Programs

CFS Extension has identified issues of concern to Indiana Citizens and developed five target programs to address them. Extension educators, who work in Purdue Extension offices in every Indiana county, are presenting these programs in their communities:

  • Adult Children, Aging Parents: Conversations Between Generations
  • Children and Weight: What Communities Can Do
  • Where Does Your Money Go?
  • Living Well for Life
  • Dining with Diabetes
