"Making Sense and No Sense of War:
Issues of Meaning and Identity in Youths' Experiences with Political Conflict"

As director of the Center for the Study of Youth and Political Violence, Brian Barber is internationally recognized for his research into the study of adolescent development in the context of political violence, with a particular focus on youth from Palestine and Bosnia. Regularly published in leading psychology and family sociology journals and the author of several books, Barber also studies the role of family, peer, school, community and religious influences in adolescent development.

His talk on the impact of political conflict and war on youth is part of the anniversary celebrations for the Center for Families and the Military Family Research Institute.

The College of Consumer and Family Sciences established the Eva Goble Lecture Series in 1992 to honor the contributions of Eva Goble, HDR ’99, who served as dean from 1967 to 1973. The annual lecture is held in the fall.
