The Value of Caregiving: A Comparative Analysis of Compensation in Military Child Development Centers

Released March 2005

This study investigates ways the Department of Defense (DoD) child development system can become an "employer of choice.” Child Development Center caregivers compensation packages are compared with civilian and DoD employees who work in occupations with features similar to child care. Information gleaned from these comparisons, as well as from the child care workforce literature on retention, inform strategies for retaining qualified caregivers in the military.
