You dream big: You want to attend medical or dental school, or you plan to go to graduate school in science and perform groundbreaking research. If you’ve dreamed of doing things like helping to eliminate world hunger or setting government policy on nutrition, consider the nutrition science-premedicine program available through the department of foods and nutrition in the School of Consumer and Family Sciences.

Career Options
You may pursue further education in graduate, medical, dental, or veterinary school. Or, with your bachelor’s degree, you could work as a research associate in many different types of settings.

Coursework
The program provides in-depth study in the physical and life sciences and includes courses in:

  • anatomy and physiology
  • chemistry
  • diet selection and planning
  • methods of nutrition investigation
  • molecular biology
  • nutrition assessment
  • nutrition/metabolism
  • statistics

Learn from Experience

  • Perform an internship or externship. Faculty members strongly encourage students to do clinical work and research, and they offer contact information and other types of help in obtaining these opportunities.

  • Learn proper research procedures and strategies as you work in labs under knowledgeable instructors.
