Exceeds Goal; CFS Celebrates 75 Years
They came from across the river and across the country. They even
came from around the world. More than 600 alumni from the School
of Consumer and Family Sciences returned to the West Lafayette Campus
October 25-27 to celebrate the school's 75th anniversary. The school's
"Diamond Jubilee" was held Homecoming weekend and coincided
with Discover Purdue Week, the beginning of a year-long campaign
to highlight Purdue's achievements and potential.

Rolls Out Indianapolis' Welcome Mat
When the streets of downtown Indianapolis are filled with people
wearing convention badges, Doug Bennett, BS '83, is a happy man.
As vice president of sales for the Indianapolis Convention &
Visitors Association, Bennett leads a 14-member sales department
that strives to keep the hotels, restaurants, and meeting facilities
in the capital city filled with guests.

Gift Puts CFS Over $10 Million Goal
A $1.5 million will provision from longtime benefactor Lorene Burkhart
Steinmetz (BS '56, HDR '97) of Indianapolis has pushed the School
of Consumer and Family Sciences over its $10 million fund-raising
campaign goal.

the most significant bonds of childhood, as deeply affecting as
those with parents, siblings, and friends," writes Gail Melson,
professor of child development and family studies, in her new book,

Senior Speaks at Memorial Service
"Thank you for being here. This week has revealed so much to
me as I am sure it has to you as well. I have become aware of how
little I know about the range of human emotions. I cannot imagine
how it must feel to only be able to sit and wait for someone I love
to come home to me. I have no sense of what it must feel like to
search for someone; to see all that is left behind; or to feel the
inexplicable joy of finding someone I thought I had lost."
