Study Abroad Expands Horizons for Students
The Eiffel Tower in Paris. Big Ben in London. The Great Wall of
China. These are just a few of the sights that some Purdue students
are experiencing through international programs such as study abroad.

Alumnus Tackles Tough Issues as an Extension
Specialist
Craig Hassel (BS '79) attributes his affinity for food in helping
him get where he is today. As associate professor and extension
specialist in nutrition at the University of Minnesota, Hassel says
it was his interest in science combined with his love of food that
led him to pursue a bachelor's degree in nutritional science at
Purdue. Following graduation, he headed to the University of Arizona
where he earned a master's in agricultural biochemistry and nutrition
in 1982 and a PhD in 1986.

Criminal Offenders Find Support from Extension
It's a Saturday morning in the Tippecanoe County Correctional Facility.
A group of 11 male criminal offenders is grouped together and among
them stands a petite woman. Her name is Aadron Rausch and she's
encouraging them to hold hands. After much joking and posturing,
they do it. They feel uneasy, but they follow her instructions because
they instinctively know something good may come of it.

Full-Day Kindergarten is Explored by Purdue
Researcher
If you're a parent, then you are probably aware of the controversy
surrounding full-day kindergarten. Schools across the nation are
facing the question of whether or not to offer a full-day program
and are examining the current research to determine whether or not
the benefits are worth the expense of hiring more teachers and building
additional classroom space. Full story
Long-time Donor Makes Planned Gift
As members of Purdue's President's Council for 10 years, Steve and
Judith Doss of St. Louis are no strangers to giving. However, Judith
says she thought the money they were contributing could be doing
more for the University.

Plans are well underway to make our 75th Gala Celebration one you
will never forget and won't want to miss! Because there will be
so much to see and do, the celebration weekend has been expanded
to include Thursday, October 25. We hope you will mark this weekend
