Consumer and Family Sciences Education


You have a drive to teach young people, and you are interested in elements surrounding the science of living – nutrition, fitness, family relationships, textiles, and human development. You can combine both interests into a career – just check out Purdue’s consumer and family sciences education program, available through the joint efforts of the School of Consumer and Family Sciences and the School of Education.

An occupational consumer and family sciences education option is available for students wishing to teach high school consumer and family sciences career programs. The option includes business management coursework as well as additional emphasis-area coursework that students may tailor to their own interests.

General Requirements and Suggested Plans of Study

Learn from Experience

  • Gain hands-on classroom experiences during you sophomore, junior, and senior years.

  • Participate in a family groups practicum by spending 90 hours at a human service agency.

  • Complete a full-time student teaching assignment.
