Through outreach, Purdue helps put knowledge to work to create new opportunities that advance our society and solve common problems. Engagement efforts within the department concentrate on helping consumers to understand and evaluate nutrition and food safety information and providing research-based information to industry professionals.
Community
Through Purdue Extension, Foods and Nutrition Specialists in the department develop programs aimed at helping consumers better understand and evaluate nutrition and food safety information. Extension Educators in Indiana's 92 counties becomes a vital link in the community, providing information and educational programming at the point-of-need to enhance lives, homes, and communities.
Industry
In the mid-1990s, foods and nutrition faculty had a vision for forging a stronger connection between academia and the corporations that benefit from research findings and talent cultivated by the department. Their dream led to the creation of two different programs, Corporate
Affiliates and Executive
in the Classroom, that today offer boundless opportunities for collaboration.
