(10 points 1st class, 20 points 2nd class)
Discussion participation 30 points
Term paper 30 points
Oral presentation of term paper 10 points

Students are expected to be present for every meeting of the class. Two unexcused absences will be allowed, however, two points will be deducted for each unexcused absence beyond the second. An absence from a regularly scheduled class will be excused if it is the result of illness, death in the family, religious observance or participation in a University-sponsored activity at the request of University authorities. Evidence documenting the cause for absence must be provided in writing within one week of the absence. To avoid a point deduction following an unexcused absence, the student may type a one page abstract (about 250 words) of a paper not included in the required readings that is related to the topic covered the day of the absence. The abstract must be turned-in within one week of the absence.
A five point deduction will be made for each day the term paper is late.
Cheating, plagiarism and fabrication will not be permitted in this class. All students are advised to read and follow the rules set forth in the Code of Student Conduct and the Academic Dishonesty Code. These publications are available in the Judiciary Office. If any student is found cheating, plagiarizing or fabricating information, strict and immediate action will be taken by the professor.
Weekly Assignments
Read and THINK ABOUT the assigned papers. Bring to class AT LEAST THREE (3) WRITTEN QUESTIONS/ISSUES stemming from the readings. They will be collected at the beginning of the class and given to the day=s discussion leader. The questions may be technical or philosophical. They are to be issues you truly do not understand and/or want to discuss, not tests of whether we all read the papers.
Term Paper
Consult with the professor regarding the topic prior to initiating work on the paper. Failure to do so and selection of an unacceptable topic may result in rejection of the paper and no points allotted for the work!!!! The paper must be a minimum of 10 pages, double spaced. It must include a minimum of 10 references that conform to the format used by Physiology and Behavior) (see attached). The paper should be comprised of a clearly stated thesis and science-based support for the view being argued.
