Avoiding Financial Scams & Fraud

Identity theft, telemarketing fraud, Internet fraud, unsafe foods, and counterfeit drugs all demand that consumers know how to protect their financial safety. To protect yourself, you need to be able to recognize signs or signals of fraud and know where to complain or find resources when a victim.

  • Money Smart Week
    This series of free classes and activities is designed to help consumers better manage their personal finances. Money Smart Week Indiana is held in October each year.

    All consumers need to be aware of fraudulent schemes and con games. Learn about some typical financial frauds and how you can protect yourself and your money.
  • Protect Yourself from Identity Theft
    One in six Indiana residents may become the victim of the serious crime of identity theft. ID thieves steal your personal information to rob you, commit fraud, or perform other crimes. Learn how you can detect, deter, and defend to protect yourself from identity theft.
  • Frauds and Scams that Keep You Broke
    At your door, in your mailbox, on your telephone, and over the Internet: learn how to protect yourself from frauds and scams that can keep you broke.
