Congratulations to Casey I. Hentrup, the recipient of a $1000 Scholarship from the Financial Planning Association of Greater Indiana. Casey was one of four students from across Indiana who was awarded this highly competitive scholarship.  She was selected for this award based on her academic achievements, work experience, community and extra-curricular involvement and her desire to pursue a career in Financial Planning.  A senior in the Department of Consumer Sciences and Retailing majoring in Financial Planning, Casey has maintained high scholarship, participated in several Study Abroad experiences in London and Guadalajara, Mexico and has held offices in the Professional Development Council and the Collegiate Financial Planners Club at Purdue.  The Financial Planning Scholarship Award was presented to Casey by Adan Diaz, Director of Career Development for the Indiana Financial Planning Association, at their quarterly meeting in Indianapolis on November 7th, 2008.  Casey is from Marysville, Indiana.

Rick Widdows, department head, will serve as the interim associate dean for diversity and international programs for 2006–07. He will work with study abroad and the CFS Multicultural Advisory Committee.


Alan Dubinsky, professor, retired at the end of the 2005–06 academic year. He joined the faculty in 1999


The CFS Multicultural Advisory Committee recognized Thelma Snuggs, assistant professor; Jungkun Park, assistant professor; and Rick Widdows, head and professor; for promoting diversity within CFS.

CSR presented its 2005-06 departmental awards. Recipients are Bobbe Stephenson, teaching; Sharon DeVaney, research; and Alan Mehringer, service.


The Purdue Black Caucus awarded CSR the Presidential Award for the department's efforts at promoting diversity. Read more about the college's diversity initiatives.

Jenn Zawisza, a junior in apparel design and technology, was selected as a 500 Festival Princess. She was one of 33 young women who served as ambassadors for the 2006 500 Festival and Indianapolis 500.
Eva Goble Lecture was sponsored by the Department of Consumer Sciences & Retailing on October 26, 2006.  One of the speaker for this unique lecture series was Jim Morris, Executive Director, nited Nations World Food Programs.
