CFS and CSR Statements
The College of Consumer and Family Sciences will be the premier leader in the study of families, consumers, nutrition and hospitality services. The College and its departments will be an impetus for change, improving the quality of life in Indiana, the nation, and the world through its leading edge research, vigorous educational programs, and innovative engagement.
The Department of Consumer Sciences and Retailing will be the preeminent advocate of research, education and engagement in the areas of selling and (sales) management, (retail[ing]) management, (apparel design) and technology, and (financial) counseling and (planning). The Department will be recognized for strong technology-based undergraduate and graduate programs, quality faculty and staff and supportive students and stakeholder partners.
CFS and CSR Mission Statements
The College of Consumer and Family Sciences has a three-fold mission to:
- Conduct internationally recognized research that improves the quality of lives of families and consumers, and increases the productivity and efficiencies of the industries we serve.
- Provide the highest quality graduate and undergraduate education in consumer and family sciences developing the knowledge and skills of the next generation of leaders in our fields.
- Engage those outside the University—families, consumers, policymakers, businesses, institutions, service providers—with knowledge and information to improve the quality of life within the home, at work, and in our communities.
The Department of Consumer Sciences and Retailing mission is to undertake relevant and significant research, to perform quality teaching based on innovative curricula, and to transfer knowledge to external constituencies, in the areas of sales, retailing, apparel design and financial planning, through a student-centric, partner-engaged and supportive working environment.
