Selling and Sales Management

Purdue University’s College of Consumer and Family Sciences is proud to house one of the few academic programs in the world specializing in selling and sales management. The Selling and Sales Management program at Purdue University, was established in 1995. SSM has become a much sought after degree on campus. In response to ever-increasing demands for admission to the program, the Department of Consumer Sciences and Retailing has recently adopted an application-only process for student enrollment into the Selling and Sales Management major. As of Fall 2006, there were 284 students enrolled in Selling and Sales Management program.

The program in Selling and Sales Management is designed to prepare individuals to take advantage of the many opportunities in the selling, sales management, and marketing areas. Highlights of the curriculum include extensive role-playing, sales presentation experience, and practical field experience. In addition to academic preparation, the sales program has a strong affiliation with Pi Sigma Epsilon, a national business fraternity for selling and marketing management.

The Selling and Sales Management program annually produces 120 graduates, who are prepared for career opportunities in business-to-business sales, industrial sales, pharmaceutical sales, marketing, insurance, and more.

As the Selling and Sales Management program continues to grow, we view our relationships with business professionals as a valued resource.  As part of our strategic plan, we will be developing corporate partners as a resource in reaching our goals.

Learn About the Quicken Loans Series

The Quicken Loan Executive in the Classroom Series:

Consumer Sciences and Retailing is excited to announce the partnership with Quicken Loans to provide the Selling and Sales Management (SSM) Executives in the Classroom Series.  Executives in the classroom is a forum that brings industry leaders on campus, sharing a real world perspective on the business environment and what it takes for young selling and sales management professionals to succeed in that environment.

Students are given the opportunity to meet and interact with highly respected business professionals in the field. Visiting executives share industry knowledge, personal experiences, and offer advice for a successful career in business. In addition, visiting executives will discuss particular topics relevant to the coursework and curriculum within the SSM program.

The Quicken Loans Series is also open to the public. The program is an excellent juncture for other departments at Purdue, local business women and men, and community schools to interact with these extraordinary leaders.

Visiting executives will give their formal presentation to the CSR 391E Quicken Loans Executives in the Classroom Series, meeting on Wednesdays at 10:30 am. Contact the department for the location of the series events. Session will be held at various location around campus…

The CSR department is thankful for the generous gift received from Quicken Loans, which facilitates the executive forum. Quicken Loans has provided the SSM students with a great opportunity to be exposed to various career choices and further development of their academic preparation for a successful professional career.

The Purpose and Objectives of the Quicken Loans Series

Students must understand the direction and future of our industry in order to be fully prepared with the most sophisticated knowledge of selling and sales management.  Significant exposure to industry leaders is an important aspect of developing their understanding.  The visions of industry leaders and their experiences serve to shape a clearer direction for the industry’s future and the career choices made by our students.  The interaction of senior executives with students throughout their education provides positive role models and serves to motivate current students to achieve high levels of success in our industry.
