Course Requirements and Grading

Attendance:
All graduate students registered in F+N 695 are expected to attend the F+N 695 seminars as well as the INP seminars! Schedules for both seminar series will be distributed in class. Failure to attend these seminars will result in a reduction in your grade. A sign-up sheet will be available at all seminars to confirm attendance,
Preparation:
One of the great benefits of a seminar is stimulation of a general discussion by the audience which further develops the ideas presented. Often good ideas for further research come from such a discussion. In order to optimize this discussion each student must take responsibility for the preparation for the seminar. The abstract, along with selected important references, for each seminar will be circulated to all students at least one week prior to the seminar. Each student is expected to critically read the abstract and any references they need in order to understand the topic of the seminar (references will be on reserve in the CFS Library). The student presenter as well as the faculty member in charge of the seminar course will be available for discussions of the topic and help in clarifying the details of the abstract.
Grading:
Students presenting seminars: All student presentations will be evaluated by the instructor and by the audience. Criteria for this evaluation are presented in the Evaluation Form. Critique provided by these forms is shared with the student as a means of improving the quality of presentations. Final evaluation and grading are the responsibility of the faculty member in charge of seminar.
Students attending seminars: Students attending seminars and registered for 0 credits (P/NP) will be graded on attendance and participation, both during the seminar and in discussions prior to the seminar.
