Description: This course intends to develop the participants' oral skills for self- expressions at elementary level. Guided practices in conversation are lead by course instructor to enhance communicative competence. Small group discussions in Chinese on daily life practical topics are conducted. This course will also develop participants' cultural awareness of general topics on China. Course materials will be provided.

Elementary Chinese Conversation 2 for Business

Description: This course continues to develop the practical speaking skills achieved from Elementary Chinese Conversation 1 and will direct the participants toward the use of Chinese for business purpose. Topics include daily business communication in Chinese, cultural and social etiquettes in dealing with Chinese business community. Course materials will be provided.

Fun with Chinese Calligraphy

Duration: 5 weeks, once a week, 2 hours each class

Description: This course provides: 1) Using Chinese brush, a magical tool with choreographic movements, to create a graceful and balanced writing result. 2) Making black ink to fit your aesthetic taste by a little exercise , i.e., grinding an ink stick with water on an ink stone. 3) Practicing regular style of calligraphy from the glorious Tang Dynasty. Strokes and structures will be stressed, and 4) Advancing to composition arrangements of short words on blank paper. Proper sizes and ink effects will be stressed. Participants will be expected to complete a calligraphy project at the end of the course. Course materials will be provided.
