Faculty Fellowships

Kontos Faculty Fellowship
Susan Kontos, the founding director of the Center for Families, was an international authority in the field of early childhood education. In particular, Dr. Kontos was committed to the well-being of children who have traditionally been disadvantaged or underrepresented, particularly children with disabilities. Kontos Faculty Fellows will focus primarily on optimizing the development of children and youth. All topics in this area will receive serious consideration; topics of particular interest include child care and early childhood education; the health and development of children and youth in challenging contexts; and the inclusion of disadvantaged or underrepresented children and youth in educational, employment, or community settings.

Hancook Faculty Fellowship
Ann Hancook, former Associate Dean for Extension in the School of Consumer and Family Sciences, was a central figure in the founding of the Center for Families. Throughout her career, Dean Hancook was devoted to improving life opportunities for low-income families. Hancook Faculty Fellows will focus on maximizing the health, well-being, and development of adults as individuals, parents, and partners. All topics in this area will receive serious consideration; topics of particular interest include assessing and addressing community needs; and investigating, promoting, and nurturing conditions that foster successful family functioning. 

Research Enhancement Awards
The purpose of the research enhancement awards is to support student training and involvement in research. Up to 2 awards of $2,000 will be given to investigators to fund graduate student travel to research or training opportunities, or to provide stipends for undergraduate members of research teams. Projects receiving research enhancement awards must be affiliated with the Center for Families, either at original submission or amended prior to disbursement of funds. Principal investigators of funded projects must be or become faculty partners of the Center for Families.
