This project is developing collaborative strategies between the
local Head Start program and the Purdue
Marriage and Family Therapy Program to better serve economically
disadvantaged families. The project provides direct services to
Head Start families in their home (home-based services), at the
Head Start center, or at the Purdue
Individual, Couple, and Family Therapy Clinic (center-based
services). Additionally, consultation is provided to Head Start
staff to empower them to more effectively work with Head Start families.
In-service training sessions for staff and family provide information
about parenting skills, child abuse prevention and reporting issues.
The project's research component aims at finding the most effective
service strategies to meet the needs of families and staff.
