Jinling internsThe Jinling Internship program combines study abroad, professional training, and cultural experience in a 5-month program at the five-star Jinling Hotel in Nanjing, China. Just imagine yourself living and learning in a country blessed with over 5,000 years of history and one of the most visited international destinations!

Through the program, you will earn two credits of HTM internship, six credits of foreign language (Chinese), and three credits of HTM independent study. As the program sponsor, the Jinling Hotel provides free international airfare, room and board, laundry allowances, field trip excursions, and other benefits. The interns in the above photo are visiting the Forbidden City. The total benefits of the most recent program carry an estimated value of $31,400.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The program offers internship positions in the front office, food and beverage, customer service, marketing, and housekeeping. During the internship, you will be enrolled in the following classes:

  1. HTM398 International Special Topics in HTM, 4 credits.

  2. HTM302 Hospitality and Tourism Industry Internship , 2 credits.

  3. CHNS101 Chinese Level I, 4 credits.

  4. CHNS399 Business Chinese for Hotels, 2 credits

HTM classes are taught by HTM professor on site and through online instruction. CHNS classes are taught in Nanjing Institute of Tourism and Hospitality by Purdue-accredited instructor. These credit hours can be applied to the HTM Minor in International Studies.

 

ELIGIBILITY AND APPLICATION

The 2009 program runs from July 1 to November 30, and applications are currently being accepted. A minimum of four and a maximum of six students will be accepted into the program. HTM and CSR students achieving sophomore or above standing by August 2008 are eligible to apply. The University’s general study abroad requirements apply. COST

Jinling front deskThe total cost to each student is $5,968*. The amount includes Purdue study abroad program fees, Chinese language course fees in China, and international insurance. The amount does not include international airfare, hotel guestroom housing, meals, and other benefits to be paid for by the program sponsor. The sponsorship value is estimated at $31,400**.

* The rate is subject to change by Purdue University due to changes in program expense, tuitions and fees.

** The student will initially pay for the international airfare. The sponsor will reimburse the student for the full amount upon the student's completion of the program.
