Students overwhelmingly agree that studying abroad is an experience that gives them a more sophisticated understanding of themselves, their own society and culture, and the world. HTM students who study abroad come back to West Lafayette more confident in their abilities to adapt and have a greater understanding of other cultures. HTM is committed to providing an educational experience that reflects the globalization of business and society. Students in the above photo are enjoying a trip to the Rhine Valley.
Semester and Academic Year Exchange Programs
HTM has a number of exchange programs with universities in various countries such as Australia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Macao, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, South Korea, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. These are programs in which two universities agree to exchange an equal number of students over a given period of time. The exchange programs are very cost-efficient since Purdue students pay Purdue tuition. The only additional cost is for the transportation to the country in which the exchange university is located. Otherwise, a Purdue student can study overseas at a cost comparable to living and studying in West Lafayette.

Spring Break, Maymester, and Summer Programs
Study abroad programs held during spring break, Maymester, and summer are designed differently from exchange programs. HTM faculty members teach these programs, traveling with small groups of Purdue students (usually 10-25) to the host university abroad. Students can earn six credit hours for the classes taught at the summer university site, and up to three credits during spring break and Maymester. Visits to major tourism attractions and hospitality operations are usually included in the cost of these programs. A certain minimum number of students must be registered for these programs in order for them to be conducted. In the past, the department has held summer programs in Maastricht, Netherlands; Oxford, England; Strasbourg, France; Townsville and Adelaide, Australia, Glasgow, Scotland; and Galway, Ireland.
Internship Abroad Programs
Internship programs abroad allow HTM students to gain valuable work experiences in a foreign environment. In addition, they generally meet the requirements for the HTM 302 class.
