The CFS Honors program is designed to introduce, enlighten, nurture, and excite top students about research issues and implementation in a unique and interesting way. Students who qualify may participate in the program any time during their college career.
ELIGIBILITY
- First-year students must have a combined Math & Verbal SAT score of 1200 (27 ACT score) or graduate in the top 10 percent of their high school class.
- Current CFS students and transfer students must have a minimum GPA of 3.2 ( or equivalent).
LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
- First year (HTM 19700): Students participate in the CFS Dean's Honors Discussion Group. They hear guest speakers and discuss current topics with fellow CFS Honors students.
- Second year (HTM 29700): Students participate in an Honors Discussion Group in the HTM department. Dr. Mick La Lopa is the HTM faculty member who conducts this discussion group.
- Third year (HTM 39700): Students begin working one-on-one with HTM faculty mentors to complete their proposal describing the students' scholarly honors project. The credits can vary from 1-3 credit hours.
- Senior year (HTM 49700): Students work independently with their HTM faculty mentors on the approved research projects developed by the students. During the semester of the senior year in which the students will finalize their projects, they will present the results of their research projects in an Honors Colloquium Poster Session.
RECOGNITION
Students who successfully complete the senior year honors project will receive a certificate of recognition from Purdue University, be listed in the commencement program as participating in an honors program, and a statement of honor achievement will be included on their academic transcript.
