The lodging specialization prepares students for job opportunities in lodging, resort, and time-sharing management. Graduates may expect to find employment as managers, assistant managers, or department heads in the rooms (front desk), housekeeping, convention sales, and human resources departments.

Curriculum Objectives

  • Summarize the design and development, marketing, and operations of a lodging concept in any segment of the lodging industry.
  • Evaluate the service and product quality of a lodging operation in any segment of the lodging industry.
  • Judge the organizational structure, culture, and human resources management infrastructure of a lodging operation in any segment of the lodging industry.
  • Justify the current market condition of the lodging industry and trends that will be apparent over the next five years.
  • Analyze the financial performance of operations in any segment of the lodging industry.
  • Compare and contrast the various segments of the lodging industry in terms of potential for growth, obstacles for growth, and current operational trends.
  • Develop management competencies, team, communication, and leadership skills that are necessary to become a manager in the lodging industry.
