Course Description
Overview of the fundamental legal framework that governs the conduct of hospitality and tourism managers. Topics include civil rights, contracts, court procedures, ethics, and risk management.
Pre-requisite
Hospitality and Tourism Management majors only; and HTM 21200 & HTM 31200.
Course Objectives
At the completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Identify the legal fundamentals of hospitality law.
- Recall the basic court procedures, negotiation, mediation, civil rights issues and contract law.
- Recall the legal principles relevant to negligence and the many cases that define the scope of obligations and liability.
- Describe and analyze legal and ethical relationships with guests, other patrons, and suppliers.
- Identify, comprehend, and analyze special topics within hospitality law, including food and alcohol liability, travel agent relationships, employment issues, franchising, copyright and trademarks, licensing and casino law.
- Describe the dynamics of risk management.
