  • Native speakers may take a 30000-level literature class in the native language. The literature can fulfill the literature requirement in the HTM program. The foreign language department will award the student credit for the first four language classes once the 30000-level class has been successfully completed. (Native speakers cannot take 30100,30200, 40100, or 40200 classes.
  • HTM student who continues with a foreign language can substitute:
    • FLL 20200 or FLL 2240 for a COM elective
    • FLL 24100 can fulfill the literature requirement

2. Certificate of Achievement

Students have credit or grades for the first four semesters (FLL 10100, 10200, 20100, 20200), and have at least a B in each of the following courses.

  • FLL 30100
  • FLL 30200
  • FLL 24001 or higher

Once all are completed, the student would show proof of the course completions to personnel in the foreign language department.

3. Recognized Minor in a Foreign Language

Requirements are the same courses as the Certificate of Achievement with two additional 3-credit courses (30000- or 40000-level) in the target language, except 33000-33900, 43000-43900 or 53000-53900. These courses are taught in English. The required grade point average for specific FLL minors may vary somewhat.
