Grade Miscellany

Some things to consider about your grade in F+N 202 this semester:

1.  If there is a disagreement about whether you turn in a particular homework, the only proof we will accept is the graded assignment itself, which we will return to you as soon as possible. Thus, it is a good idea to keep ALL your returned assignments until the end of the semester in case you need them to prove that you did indeed turn it in to us.

2.  You have one (1) week from the time grades are updated to contest a particular grade.  After that time, no grade changes or alterations will be permitted or considered.

3.  Late assignment policy:  Assignments should be turned in on the day specified on the web site.  If they are turned in the next day, they will only be worth 50% of their normal value.  On the second day after the due date, the assignments are worth zero (0) points.  There are NO exceptions to this policy!

4.  Missing a regular semester mini-exam:  Makeup exams will not be given.
There are NO exceptions to this policy!  However, you can replace TWO (and only TWO) missing exam scores with a score that depends on how you do on the final exam.  As an example, suppose you missed mini-exam 3 (worth 40 points).  On the final, let's say you got 80 points out of 100 (80% or 0.80 as a decimal).  Your mini-exam 3 score would then be calculated to be (40)*(0.80) = 32 points.  Note:  If you start a mini-exam you must finish it!  No coming, starting the exam and then deciding you didn't study enough!  If you decide not to take the exam and use the makeup mechanism described above, make your decision before we hand out the questions.  After that it's too late and you must finish that exam and take that score.

5.
If, after all your points are calculated for the semester (before the final exam) you are within 50 points of the lowest A, you may elect to take the A grade and not take the final.  If you are within 50 points of the lowest B (before the final exam) you may elect to take the B and not take the final.  The grade scale for this semester is shown below so the you may calculate if you are within 50 points of either an A or a B.  You should know that this will be very difficult to do if you miss any regular mini-exams.  This is further explained by the graphic below.

Missing final options

6.  Conflicts between FN 202 assignments and religious observances:  Dr. Evers and I are both sensitive to the fact that occasionally religious observances during the semester may require you to miss class.  If there is an assignment that requires your physical presence (exam, investigative report) on that particular day, we can work around that with you.  However, for homework that you have known about since day one of the semester and which you can do and turn in any time, we will not excuse those being late because you are observing a particular religious holiday or function.  One day late, they lose half their points.  The second day late, they are worth zero points.  It is your responsibility, since you know both when the assignments are due and when the religious holidays are, to make sure that you complete those homework assignments and turn them in ahead of time to get full points.
