Family Impact Seminar

Family Impact Seminars have been well received by federal policymakers in Washington, DC, and Indiana is one of several states to sponsor such seminars for state policymakers. The seminars provide state-of-the-art research on current family issues for state legislators and their aides, governor's office staff, state agency representatives, educators, and service providers.

One of the best ways to help individuals is by strengthening their families; therefore, Family Impact Seminar speakers analyze the consequences an issue, policy, or program may have on families.

The seminars provide objective, non-partisan information on current issues and do not lobby for particular policies. Seminar participants discuss policy options and identify common ground where it exists.

Target Audience: Legislators, legislative staff, and key decision makers.

Goals

  • Provide objective, non-partisan, research-based information on family issues
  • Analyze the consequences an issue, policy, or program has for family well-being
  • Promote family well-being as a criterion for policy-making
  • Illustrate the central role of families in addressing social problems
