Internships & Student Teaching

Most CDFS students engage in an internship or student teaching on a full-time basis for an entire semester in their senior year. Internships are based in a variety of agency settings and geographic locations. Each internship placement is tailored to the professional interests and needs of the student.

Examples of recent internships for youth, adult, and family services majors include:

  • The Children's Museum of Indianapolis
  • Senior Services, Inc., Hamilton County, Indiana
  • Juvenile Alternatives Program of Superior Court 3, Tippecanoe County, Indiana
  • Big Brothers/ Big Sisters of Lake County, Indiana
  • Jane Addams Hull House/Independent Living Program, Chicago
  • First Steps Intake, St. Joseph County, Indiana

Student teaching is a high point of the senior year for students majoring in early childhood education and exceptional needs. Student teaching occurs in early childhood classrooms that include children with and without disabilities. Placements are available in a variety of settings throughout the Greater Lafayette area. Examples of student teaching locations include:

  • Greater Lafayette Area Special Services Preschool
  • Lafayette Head Start
  • Purdue Child Development Laboratory School
  • Purdue Child Care Program
  • Tippecanoe County Child Care
  • Village Nursery School, West Lafayette
