CDFS Overview
The Department of Child Development and Family Studies emphasizes
life course and contextual perspectives in the study of children,
adults, and families. Its 18 faculty members represent graduate
programs in developmental studies, family studies, and marriage
and family therapy. It offers BS, MS, and PhD degrees. Undergraduate
options are Youth, Adult, and Family Services; Individual and Family
Studies; and Early Childhood Education and Exceptional Needs. Current
enrollment in the department is 441, including 71 graduate students.
The department includes the Child Development Laboratory School,
the Purdue Child Care Program, the Individual, Couple and Family
Therapy Clinic, the Center for Families, and Purdue Extension. Purdue
University is home to the Center for Aging and the Life Course,
and the Family Studies program includes the Berner-Hanley Professorship
in Gerontology.
